DTM Zandvoort 2018
Last weekend I was at a sunny and dusty Zandvoort for the DTM. The German (super) touring car championship put on a show with their spectacular cars. The car manufacturers were all represented in the paddock, though Mercedes, who will be leaving the championship at the end of this year, was noticeably absent. Unlike Audi and BMW, they didn't have a large paddock presence. But there was still plenty to see in a summer paddock. With a proper beer garden, pit walk, and proper grid girls (yes, the patronizing hasn't set in here yet), it was a pleasant place to be. But there was also plenty of action on the track. During the DTM races, as well as Formula 3 and the supercar challenge, a few cars occasionally shot through the gravel. Mick Schumacher, for example, had to watch in frustration as his car was towed out of the gravel trap at the Tarzan corner. He didn't get past the first corner in the second F3 race after being forced off the track by others. The two DTM races were won by Gary Paffett (Mercedes) and Rene Rast (Audi).
