After a completely rained-out 2022 edition, I finally gave the 6 Hours of Spa another try. Despite a bit of drizzle in the morning, it was more bearable this time. The pit walk was busy. But that still resulted in some pictures and a spontaneous visit to the CarGuy Ferrari garage.
However, the cold, still somewhat damp track proved slippery for the cars. Several cars spun on the first lap. Later, a Ferrari hypercar on cold tires actually crashed on the straight.
But the biggest blow came for Renger van der Zande. Something broke off his (in mint condition) Cadillac, after which he crashed at full speed in Eau Rouge, writing off the car.
Renger's Cadillac just before and after the crash...
It was really good to see 13 cars on the grid for this race in the top class alone. This has been different in recent years, with often only 4 cars. Especially at the beginning, positions fluctuated considerably. But in the end, it was Toyota that, driven by their experience, took the race to victory.
That weekend, I spent a lot of time shooting at slow shutter speeds, with things like spectators or other objects between me and the car. This is something that recently won me the top prize in the photo competition for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And this time, it yielded some fantastic results, which you can see in this report. See for yourself ;-)
