FIA WEC & ELMS Silverstone 2017
Last weekend I visited the Silverstone Circuit for the first time. I was supposed to watch the opening races of the 2017 season for both the European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship. After a slight delay on the way, we arrived at the track just in time for the warm-up lap of the ELMS race, just in time to see the start. A great race followed with plenty of action. With one lap to go, the leading G-Drive racing car was overtaken by Filipe Albuquerque's United Autosports LMP2, which had launched a massive final sprint. Sunday's race was no less spectacular. In three of the four classes, there were battles for the lead in the final minutes – fantastic! Silverstone itself is also worth a visit. Everything is easily accessible on foot. If you don't feel like it, you can always take a free double-decker bus with built-in Wi-Fi to the other side of the track. For photography enthusiasts like me, there were also plenty of spots to take great action shots of the cars. In short, a successful race weekend!
