Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort 2022
I've visited the Historic Grand Prix in Zandvoort several times. This year, too, there was plenty to see. The weather was perfect for a lap around the circuit and the paddock. A colleague came along, attending a race for the first time. And it's a great opportunity for that. From pre-war cars to Le Mans sports cars and Formula 1 cars from various decades, it's all on display.
However, after 2020, the feeling remained that the circuit had lost some of its charm following the renovations, and there are a few less-than-ideal spots for photography. And the demonstrations were nothing more than a promotional parade featuring production cars from Porsche and BMW, while in the past we were quite spoiled with Le Mans-winning cars and the like – a missed opportunity. Furthermore, the starting grids were sometimes unexpectedly small, with only six for the race featuring recent Formula 1/GP2/WSR cars. In terms of action for a seasoned racegoer, it was a bit less. But with such beautiful weather, a relaxing day at the track and then finishing off with a meal...who cares, life is good :-)
