Le Mans 2018

Le Mans 2018

A week ago, the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans concluded. I was there for the eighth year in a row. But unfortunately, it turned out to be the race we feared after the 6 Hours of Spa . The Toyotas started from pole and held the lead. Spinning in the first corner, there was an incident between the privateer teams, who were up against the mighty Toyota. From there, the gap only grew to 12 laps. The Toyotas were spared the major dramas of last year and thus took victory unchallenged. Not that it was undeserved, but a bit more fight and drama would have been nice. The tension quickly evaporated in the other classes as well. In LMP2, G-Drive dominated, but they were disqualified afterward for cheating with the fuel system (and, in fact, they also cheated with their lineup). This allowed Alpine to take the LMP2 victory again. In the GTE classes, the Porsches were clearly fastest, and after a safety car period in the fourth hour, they were handed a two-minute lead over the rest. Was it all just a nightmare? No, of course not. Le Mans is still Le Mans. And there was plenty to see on and around the track. We visited some remote corners of the circuit by car that are inaccessible on foot, which resulted in some great action and beautiful photos. And on Friday evening, Jamiroquai gave a spectacular concert at the Dunlop Bridge. Jaykay, a huge car enthusiast himself, was disappointed that he couldn't be at the start the next day because of a concert in Greece. That concert also yielded some great photos. You can see all the photos from the race weekend and the concert below.
