Nieuwjaarsrace Zandvoort 2023
Traditionally, the New Year's Race is held in Zandvoort on the first Saturday of the year. Last year, I was also there for the somewhat delayed edition. One of last year's highlights, the Renault of Equippe Verschuur, came to a stop in the gravel trap during qualifying. In the garage, I watched the team busily clear the gravel from the car and repair it. Drivers Olivier and David Hart were still analyzing onboard footage. But unfortunately, they didn't start the race.
Several Koopman Racing BMWs were on the grid. The BMW Z4 GT3, driven by Nick Catsburg, led the field, followed by their other M6 GT3s.
PG Motorsport, just like last year, also entered a Porsche 992 this time. The field was quite limited, partly due to the withdrawal of the Renault. This may have been due to the economic crisis, or perhaps because the 24 Hours of Dubai are being held this coming weekend. Jeroen Bleekemolen was also at the start, getting ready for the Dubai weekend.
After about an hour, it started to rain, and it quickly grew darker. This, of course, also resulted in some great images. The race was ultimately won by the white #106 BMW M6 GT3 of Koopman Racing, driven by Mex Jansen and Bart Arendsen. Here are the photos again.
