TT Assen 2023
I now had the lens I'd actually wanted to rent last year, and I wanted to finally unleash it on the bikes to get even closer to the action. The day started with practice for the Moto3. Colin Veijer from Staphorst was competing in his first Moto3 race weekend on home soil. On Sunday, he would take a fantastic 7th place, a great score for his debut.
Moto2 followed. Unfortunately, Bo Bendsneyder was sidelined due to surgery earlier that week, forcing him to sit out the weekend. Zonta van der Goorbergh did ride, but a crash in practice didn't help the excitement surrounding his home race. Still, it was great to have him back.
MotoGP is, of course, what it's all about. I'd already paid some extra attention to Marc Márquez during practice; the previous weekend, he'd already crashed five times in Germany and didn't start the main race. This weekend, too, wasn't going well. I saw him constantly letting others pass in practice and not riding well on the line. And later, he crashed into the back of another rider. This weekend, too, he wouldn't start on Sunday; was his career over, or would he change bikes?
New on Saturday was the sprint race: a short MotoGP race. So it was great to catch a race on a training day. I was right on the starting grid!
Saturday’s race was eventually won from pole by Marco Bezzecchi on the #72 VR46 Ducati.
On Sunday, champion Francesco Bagnaia, on his factory Ducati, put things right, winning the TT for the second year in a row, the first since Valentino Rossi to do so. Check out the rest of the album below and contact me if you'd like me to do a report for you or if you'd like to order more photos.
