WEK Nieuwjaarsrace Zandvoort 2022
Sometimes you wake up wondering, "What am I going to do today?" My schedule for the last weekend of January was suddenly unexpectedly empty. A planned party unfortunately fell through. So, on Saturday morning, I checked my phone and saw the New Year's race of the Winter Endurance Championship. The weather was beautiful, admission was free, and my camera was already at the ready. So, I decided to jump in the car.
And that gamble paid off. In Zandvoort, I could easily park my car at the Tarzan bend and then find a spot there to photograph the start. Perfect weather. And if it stayed like this, I told Richard from volgaspics.nl there was a good chance of a beautiful sunset. Just like him, I did a lap of the circuit to see what it looked like after the renovations for F1. During the Historic Grand Prix 2020 , the outer ring was closed to visitors. But luckily, we could go around it this time, and there were good spots to take pictures. Halfway through the race, it became quite cloudy. But in the end, we were treated to a beautiful sunset. I took some more photos at the S-bend and then hurried to the main straight where Richard was already taking pictures. The light fell beautifully on the straight, and through the mesh, I could photograph the cars at speed in the sunshine. The race was ultimately won by the #110 Porsche of PG Motorsport.
I was able to go home with a grin on my face. The racing year has certainly gotten off to a good start! See the results below.
