The Pineapple Thief & LizZard @ Melkweg Amsterdam 29-9-2018
After photographing them twice last year during the Your Wilderness tour and providing photos for the Where We Stood live album, I had the privilege of photographing The Pineapple Thief again. This time, on September 29th, I was able to go to the Melkweg in Amsterdam to see them play during the Dissolution tour. When I arrived early at the venue to pick up my photo pass, I was surprised to see how the entire street in front of the Melkweg was packed. And not just with the usual prog rock fans, but especially with a lot of teenage girls. It turned out that the Melkweg was packed in three halls that night. But they'd been around that block before, so that was fine. It was quite funny to see the difference between the three rows. Each act attracted their own type of audience :-) The Pineapple Thief's opening act was the French band LizZard. They delivered an excellent set, including some great instrumental pieces. Drummer Katy would sometimes go so wild that her drumsticks would break, landing in the crowd next to me. The band was clearly having a blast. Meanwhile, I enjoyed taking photos; after all, they'd let me document the entire set. Then it was time for The Pineapple Thief. I had to work quickly here, since the photographers were only allowed to shoot the first two songs. But luckily, I got some nice shots there too, after which my camera dutifully went back in its bag. The Pineapple Thief were in full swing; it seemed like they were even more in tune with each other. New guitarist George Marios was also a definite asset. And Gavin Harrison on drums continues to impress; I was happily tapping along on my camera bag, haha. Hopefully, I'll see you next time; I had a blast!
