TT Assen 2022
It's been three years since I did my first assignment for Global Tickets at the TT Assen . Since then, I've done a few other things for them. But as soon as the C-crisis hit, an outstanding quote was shelved, and things went quiet. Understandable, since all the events were cancelled as well. I felt sorry for them and feared it would hit them hard. But this spring, things reopened, and Global Tickets was also very busy. The public seems to be trying to make up for lost time. And so they asked if I could do another shoot during the TT. This time with models too—how could I refuse, haha.
Something new they wanted to highlight was their campsite this year. So, the first photo I took wasn't of a racing bike, but of breakfast in the canteen of the ACV football club where the campsite was located. The weather wasn't great that morning, as I'd feared. So I took some photos of the canteen, some in the glamping tents, and mostly of a wet campsite. That's why I went back the next day when it was sunny for better summery campsite photos.
But that first morning, a first model shoot was also planned. During the weekend, I had shoots with Daphne , Djieyanti, and Demi . These were to promote the campsite, as well as along the circuit and in the stands to promote the event itself. It was a challenge. With the bad weather on Friday and later in the weekend, fitting the circuit shoots in with the track activities and on-site atmosphere reporting sometimes meant improvising. But in the end, it yielded the desired photos, and that's what matters. It was fun working with them, getting to know them this way, and learning about the ins and outs of the business. The ladies travel to various motorcycle races throughout Europe—a sometimes hectic life, but they still managed to show their best side.
Over the weekend, I also shot some atmospheric shots, images for the website for the sale of (future) grandstands, and a report on the latest edition of the Rossi Stekkenwal grandstand. But of course, I also did my specialty: motorcycle racing action shots. For this, I rented a different lens for a wider zoom range. And during the wet practice sessions on Friday afternoon, this immediately yielded some fantastic images.
During the weekend I also made some nice close-ups and photos of the riders in action.
Sometimes I felt like a child on St. Nicholas Eve as I watched the beautiful gems of images from that day being loaded onto my laptop.
With an average of over 10km of walking per day with a camera backpack, changing weather conditions, spontaneous photoshoots, and closed fences and tunnels around the track, it was quite a challenge at times. But I can still look back on a successful weekend and another great report.
